Sunday funny

If you've never watched AFN (American Forces Network) television, let me give you a little background:

You can look at what is coming up on the menu channel. It shows now --> the next hour. It scrolls up, with the channel on the far left, and it's a grid with the times at the top and the shows in rows matching their channel. In each block there is the name of the show, and someone on the show, usually the person with the first name alphabetically. ie- American Idol: Paula Abdul.
OR it might be a description, ie- Extreme Engineering: Space Tower.

Sundays, one of the channels will broadcast religious programs for the first half of the day. This morning I saw:

Hour of Power: God. I'm not sure if that meant "starring God" or it's about God or what, but it made me giggle a little. :)

It's been a while...

So I have a few random things to mention:
*23 MAY 2008-wore sweatshirt today. Only got a little warm in the afternoon.
*today was my last day at the old job.
*Tuesday after Memorial Day starts the new one!
*I'm okay with David Cook winning American Idol. In fact, while I totally thought Archuleta had it in the bag, I'm kind of glad Cook took it. He is awesome and so sincere.
*AND, I managed to avoid all spoilers!! yaye!
*I'm happy that Whitney won America's Next Top Model! Not sure how a size 10 became plus size, but okay.
*I can't beleive it is almost the end of May. That's crazy, the year is flying.

That's about all I got. Just wanted to post and stay in touch. :)

Need a camera on the autobaun

I know that wouldn't be the safest decision anyone ever made, but to capture some of the stuff we see would be priceless. Not as priceless as our lives and the lives of those around us, thought, so unless I'm the passenger, I won't do it!

I googled what I saw this morning and came up with a substitute. It was on the back of a white semi truck made grey by the dirt it had accumulated.

Country Roads...

TAKE ME HOME!!!

I heard this driving to work this morning, on the German radio station, of course. Sang and loudly and as hideously as possible, bawling the whole time.

Almost heaven, west virginia
Blue ridge mountains, shenandoah river
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, blowing like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

All my memries, gather round her
Miners lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice, in the mornin hours she calls to me
The radio reminds me of my home far a-way
And drivin down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home
To the place, I be-long
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

And I'm thinking about home, and 290, 71, 1462, Alvin to Austin and back. And I'm thinking about Bill L and how much he loves that John Denver. And I'm thinking about listening to that John Denver 8 track in the 70s. And how sad that he's gone.

and then FAME came on. and you can't help but be happy listening to that one! :)

Songs of Life

I just had to do it.
Put your iPod (or iRiver) on shuffle (unless it is an early version iPod, one that doesn’t have shuffle) and press next for each question. Write down the song that’s playing as an answer.

**disclaimer**-I didn’t actually do this with my iPod. I am at work, so I have AFN on the radio. Each time a song comes on I fill in a blank. Yeah, not working that hard…

1) How would you describe yourself?
Cruel Summer – Bananarama! (ok, anyone who knows me knows this is classic!!)

2) What do you like in a guy/girl?
Naughty Girl – Beyonce (I’m just doing what the radio says!)

3) What is your motto?
Nice to Know you – Incubus

4) What do your friends think of you?
Shadow of the Day – Linkin Park

5) What do you think about often?
Take a Bow – Rihanna (this one makes no sense)

6) What do your parents think of you?
Feels Like Tonight – Daughtry (nor does this one)

7) What do you think of your best friend?
I’m Gonna Be Alright – Jennifer Lopez

8) What do you think of the person you like?
Heaven Sent – Keyshia Cole (AMEN!)

9) What do you want to be when you grow up?
My Lovin’ (Never Gonna Get it) – EnVogue (???)

10) What do you think when you see the person you like?
Youth of the Nation – P.O.D. (I do not think this.)

11) What song will they play at your wedding?
“They” already played Here I Am – Billy Currington. But the radio predicts…
Throwing it all Away – Genisis

12) What will they play at your funeral?
New Soul (la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la) – Yael Naim (SWEAR I’m not making this up)

13) What is your hobby/interest?
Girl Next Door – Baby Jane

14) What is your biggest fear?
Breathe (2am) – Anna Nalick

15) What is your biggest secret?
Sweet Escape – Gwen Stefani w/ Akon

16) What do you think of your friends?
Wake me up before you Go-Go – WHAM!

17) What is your theme song?
(waiting for the radio commercial to be over…) I feel it all – Feist

18) What do you think of your family?
Steady as she goes – The Raconteurs

19) What is your best friend’s theme song?
Calling you – Blue October

20) What is your mood right now?
Goodbye to you – Michelle Branch (dedicated to the G8 I think, except I’m not sad!)

21) If your heart could talk what would it say?
I’m Yours – Jason Mraz

22) What do your co-workers think of you?
Sorry – Buckcherry

23) What does your future look like?
Peaceful World – John Mellencamp (that would be great!)

Tag your it!

ps- Kind of gives you an idea of what we listen to on AFN. I will often radio station surf in the car, but it isn’t feasible at work, and between songs I can tune out the talking if it is English. (Especially if it is that SAME STORY for the 100th time about AKO vs DKO email systems!) But if it is in German, it grates on my nerve.

Also, I had to look up the lyrics to many of these songs to #1 see who was singing it, and #2 see what it was really about. Interesting stuff.

JACKPOT!

A few times a year the garrison schedules a yard sale. ID card holders may put their stuff out, and buy/sell from one another. SO, I go to post today, and LOAD UP! Here is what I got:
1. golf bag for taking clubs on the plane (for SB, obviously)
2. insulated tote that slings over your shoulder, holds about a 6 pk (for golfing, but I'll use it, too)
3. insulated brown-lunch-sack-type bag for carrying lunch.
4. sturdy wire stand up rack (for the bathroom since there are no cabinets and our stuff is currently cluttering up the w/d and 1/2 wall).
5. 4 cassette tapes (Dirty Dancing, Woman in Red, 2 homemade w/ Faith Hill, John Michael Montgomery, Trish Yearwood and I think George Strait. If that's illegal, sorry. My car has a cassette player, and I'm tired of the Starlight Express and Restless Heart tapes I have).
6. 3 paperback books
7. AND, a treadmill! It doesn't plug in, you just walk on it. I wanted the one that plugs in, it was 220, but I just couldn't see $70 when I spent $15 on the stairclimber at the last yard sale that I've used exactly twice.

Grand total?? $33.50. Yep, THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS and FIFTY CENTS!
#1-4=$20; 5+6=$3.50; 7=$10

So I was feeling so lucky and rich that I went to the Woolworths when I got home and got a dress and some capris for 20euro. So, yeah, that's $31.50. Not such a super deal on that...but 's ok!

Going to do some yardwork...Happy Sunny Beautiful Saturday!!!! :)

Bittersweet Goodbyes

Jack and Rebecca, my FRSA friend (whose job I got!) and McKenna (not pictured, their dog) off to Georgia/Conneticut. CSM Ramos of 72nd, and Dona, our banker, going to Georgia!
CPT Temple, Stephanie and little Gregory, headed for San Antonio.

So happy for these people, but will miss them terribly!

Stuttgart Scrappers!

I've been two timing Mannheim! I've driven twice now to Stuttgart to scrapbook with this group. First time to check them out, second time to make sure that I wasn't dreaming it! They really are a great group of ladies!

Ora-you wanna go? :)

If you read this blog...

but you don't comment, please let me know. I am planning to do something soon and need to know who all is reading it. If you comment regularly, and/or YOUR blog is featured in the sidebar, I know to include you.

also...reading through old posts...I sure use to post a lot more! I'll try to get better about that...

That's MY 2 Cents!

In February I mentioned that the euro had fallen to .6397. Since then, we have been down to .6133333. Well, we are now happy to see it back up to .6339! It is all about perspective, I guess. And once you've seen it at 61 cents to the euro, 63 looks all the better. Glad to have my 2 cents back...hoping to see it continue to go up!

National Scrapbook Day-May 3!

Back to Stuttgart for another all day crop! This time it was sunny and beautiful, very little traffic, and no getting lost! An hour and a half to a scrapfest like no other. Scrapalicious, our fearless leader, planned all kinds of supergreat things for us to do. There was Scrap Bingo, fun giveaways, challenges to keep you inspired, a trash to treasure table and a swap table! OH, and what National Scrapbook Day is complete without a cake? It was awesome! I finished our ski trip album and started vacations 2008.

We also had ample time to discuss the ups and downs military spousedom. No bacon or provolone at the Subway? The Taco Bell closes at FIVE pm on Saturday? No onion or sausage at the pasta place in the commissary??? And medical coverage/issues/availability, kids and kid care, packing out (do you pack your scrap stuff in household goods or whole baggage?) anything and everything. It was really a great time and I look forward to our next get together in June!
