Whatcha Doin'?

When Soldiers prepare to do what they do, those in the business of helping families prepare do what they do. That's what I've been doing. I've been crazy busy at work last week, this week, and will continue to be for the coming weeks. This is good because time will fly, but it is also bad because time will fly. I will miss the blogging (as Ican't really blog about what's up at work!), but I'll be back if anything big happens (like snowmen or crazy people on the road!).

OH, and one more thing...When I'm not blogging, and not working or resting from working, I'm DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING!! :)

Ahhhh, the sunshine!

Here comes the sun!! and with it come the crazy car washers! There were about 8 people washing their cars at lunch today! It's not a great picture, but you know people get kind of leery of people taking photos of them, so I didn't take a bunch.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

Stephen made YUMMY Roasted chicken with peppers and onions! YUM-r-IFIC! This was Tuesday night, Feb 24. Tonight he made spicy grilled pork tenerloin that was SUPERAWESOME. No pictures of it...sorry!

Captions are off, but I've got too many posts to be all editing a million times!!!

Start by measuring the olive oil, kind of.

Then just pour it all in!

Mash it around.

A Laugh in Traffic

I was driving home yesterday (Fat Tuesday) and the traffic slowed to a crawl. The guy in front of me was clearly irritated. He kept swerving side to side, hoping to pass, looking to see what was going on, etc. Finally, he got around the car in front of him and the vehicle in front of that. Then the car that was in front of him passed. Both all speeding up and cutting around and back in sooner than necessary to show their frustration. Then I could see what was causing the slow down and I laughed and laughed. Seriously, people, lighten up! :)

It's a car full of Carnivale/Fasching/Mardi Gras Celebraters!

This is in the rearview mirror, just trying to show the front of the big rig as well.

Good times!

As Requested

KC requested a picture of this same scene. It was snowing the week before and I caught it, but there wasn't snow on the ground. So here it is on the ground, and coming down again...

Headless Snowman

okay, so I pulled the pictures off the camera. This and the next several posts are what has been going on this past week!

Tuesday, Feb 17--

In the picture you see the snowman lost his head and torso. In the video you'll see...it's snowing again! (this just in...it was near 50 today!!! 2.25.09)

A Smile Through the Telephone Line

One of our battalions has about 8 Soldiers deployed as individuals, attached to another unit in a country other than this one. That's all I can say.

Well, it's always easier to get care pkgs when you are with a large unit on a long deployment. This one is not so many people and they'll only be gone 5-6 months. That's all, just 5-6 months. Seems not so long compared to the 15 months some have recently done. But it's plenty long enough. They left before Christmas, too, so that kind of sucks. Anyway, so I sent them a little package not long ago with some slim jims, hard candy, magazines, etc.

Tomorrow I get to send a BIG box of stuff that was sent for Soldiers who have returned and they all got some goodies and there was a lot left over. So I'm forwarding the blessings on!

Here's where the smile comes in. I emailed my friend, Karl. He is one of the 8. He's kind of my point guy because I don't know the others and I know him pretty well, having worked along side him when I was at 72d, and he has been in BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) for some time and is at community events I attend as well.

I emailed him 3 times because I kept thinking of things I wanted to ask about what they wanted/needed, etc. Well, he called so he could just answer and not have to compose a bunch of emails. It was SO good to hear his voice! We both hung up the phone so excited. I'm excited I'm sending a box, he's excited to be receiving it and to tell the others about it.

:) It was a smile that stayed on my face for quite some time, and will stay in my heart for much longer. THIS (and things like this) is why I do this job.

And President's Day!

We never knew that you could just make a snowball and then literally just roll it and it rolls more snow up on it like turf.

While I was watching snow at work...

This was going on in Burstadt.
Stephen called when I was at lunch to see if I had the camera. I did. Oh-because there is a fire. WHAT? There was a fire down the street from our house. I don't know who, if anyone was living in the house, but it was a pretty serious fire. 7 fire trucks showed up from Burstadt and at least 3 neighboring towns. I'll try to do some captioning so you can see where this was happening in relation to our house.

This is taken from outside our fence that borders this pking lot (parkplatz) where we park our cars.

All of these firemen are across the street from our front door, on the side of the street where the fire is, but it's toward the behind of the camera.

This stucco building is the one you see in the top picture at the far edge of our pking lot.

Fire hose shooting up at house.

Fire hose and spectators.
See the fireman behind all the smoke?

Toting the ladder down the block. See? Maybe make those streets a little wider?!

Firemen in the bucket. Poking at the house to see if there are remaining embers.

Lady peeking out at the commotion.

Tiles that have been broken and fallen from the roof.

This is our neighborhood ice cream store man!

Taken from our front gate.

I just left this one in for comments. It is taken from our gate looking away from the scene of the fire. See the building at the end of the street? The ice cream shop is just to the left. They just reopened, been closed for the winter. See the walker? Some old lady has walked (in 30something degree weather) to her hair appt. Where you see the grate in the sidewalk and then the pipe and then the doorway...the doorway is our garage.
